AIR (alpha version) now available for Linux

Today, the world of Linux has become even more appealing. Linux developers can now use Web technologies to build desktop RIA’s. The AIR runtime, albeit in alpha flavor right now, is available for Linux as of today. I’ve been playing with AIR on Ubuntu last week and I really like it! Never before has it been that simple for a (web) developer to deploy an application on all major platforms (Mac, Win and Linux). We’re actually also showing some AIR apps running on Linux on the onAIR tour. This is also great news for the future of AIR. Lots of devices are actually running on Linux… I’m sure you can imagine what this means…
In addition an update to the Alpha version of Flex Builder for Linux has also gone live, which adds support for creating apps on AIR.
“Adobe is committed to delivering the technologies that enable developers everywhere to create the next generation of RIAs for the browser and the desktop,†said David Wadhwani, general manager, Platform business unit at Adobe. “With the alpha release of Adobe AIR for Linux and the Adobe Flex Builder for Linux alpha update, we’re delivering early releases of a first-class application runtime and RIA creation tool to the Linux community. This allows us to have an open conversation with users during our development process, which will give us very valuable developer insights.â€
In addition, we’re also announcing that Adobe is joining the Linux foundation!
It’s a great day!
A Picasso in my hotelroom toilet?
Euhm yeah… Just being a bit silly. I just arrived… well… I arrived about 2 hours ago but it takes ages to get a video uploaded on YouTube… But anyway, I arrived in Madrid and while having a look around the hotel room, I noticed that there is a Picasso hanging on the wall in my toilet. Seriously. And it’s totally the real thing. Well… The hotel lobby has an exibition of “Falsificaciones legales”. So they are exhibiting legal falsifications and I’m sure we can also categorize this under “Falsificaciones legales”.
Here’s the video proof of the “totally real” Picasso in my hotel room:

Heads up: Prepare for the Flash Player 9 security update
Adobe is preparing a security update for Flash Player 9 that will be released next month (April 2008) to fix previously disclosed (see Security Bulletin ABSP07-20 and Security Advisory APSA07-06) vulnerabilities and to further strengthen the security of the Flash Player.
These are the main things you have to watch out for:
- A socket policy file will always be required for all socket connections
Important when you use sockets or XMLSockets, regardless of the domain to which you are connecting - A policy file will be required to send headers across domains
Important when you use addRequestHeader or URLRequest.requestHeaders in any network API call when sending or loading data cross-domain or you provide access to content on remote domains as a web service provide. This applies to all methods of loading data including solutions like AMF-PHP (see Wade Arnold’s blog for an example crossdomain policy file for AMF-PHP) - The allowScriptAccess default will always be “sameDomain”
Important when you have SWFs that are exported for Flash Player 7 (SWF7) or earlier that communicate with the hosting HTML by any means - “javascript:” URLs will be prohibited in networking APIs, except getURL(), navigateToURL(), and HTML-enabled text fields
Important when you use “javascript:” through network APIs to communicate outside a SWF

Flex RIA Photoshop Express launched today
Adobe Photoshop Express is now in public beta. Photoshop Express is a free Rich Internet Application (RIA) built with Flex that allows you to store, sort and show off digital photos with eye-catching effects. It’s a perfect example of how powerful Flex and ActionScript have become.
As with every public beta period, Adobe is looking for your feedback on product features and functionality, which will continue to evolve over time. I have already added one feature request. There’s currently no support for Flickr. I know Flickr already uses Picnik but it would be great to have as much options as possible in Photoshop Express. (Update: Ryan Stewart heard that Flickr support is coming soon) Then again, I’m wondering if I could just switch to Photoshop Express as my main online photo app… It has taken much of Adobe’s best image editing technology and made it simple and accessible to a new online audience. Photoshop Express allows users to store up to 2 gigabytes of images online for free, make edits to their photos, and share them online in creative ways, including downloading and uploading photos from popular social networking sites like Facebook.
Update: John Nack is saying that an AIR-version is coming soon which will enable offline image editing and printing services.
10% discount for 360Flex in Milan

If you haven’t heard, 360Flex is coming to Milan. What I particularly like about this event is that it has an impressive speaker list that has a great mix of well established names but also a bunch of cool new names. Marco Casario, Sakri Rosenstrom, Greg Wilson, Enrique Duvos, Weyert de Boer and Rostislav Hristov are just a sample of the exciting speakers presenting in Milan.
If you have been thinking about going to 360Flex but haven’t yet registered, maybe this can help you change your mind. If you register now and use the code “adobelove” and you’ll get 10% off!
