First leg of onAIR tour sold out but Paris capacity expanded
Just over a week ago, I asked you guys to register for the Brussels stop of the onAIR tour because we (us Belgians) were in last position. I am happy to announce that we actually doubled the registrations last week and have actually sold out now! So thank you all for creating the buzz and for registering! I’m looking forward to see you all there!
Actually, all events in the first leg of the tour are now sold out but we have expanded the capacity for the Paris event. Paris is only about an hour and a half from London and Brussels with the train so that may be an option if you couldn’t make it to those events. And there’s also the second leg of the tour which starts in Stockholm on June 2nd.
The tour starts in exactly 10 days now and I have to say that I’m really looking forward to it. There’s something very appealing to taking the train all across Europe with your fellow evangelist friends and I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun and a ton of great stories to tell and we all have Flip camera’s in our backpack so I’m pretty sure there will be also be a lot of incriminating video footage to share :D
UPDATE: Paris has sold out again.
Flash on mobile: Apple: “Naah”, MS: “Yes!”
Let’s face it, Flash is a big part of today’s internet. In fact, more than 70% of all the video on the web is Flash video and then we’re not even talking about the massive amount of games and the numerous full blown applications out there. I’m sure you’ve all read or heard about Steve Jobs saying that the desktop version of the Flash player “performs too slow to be useful” and that Flash Lite “is not capable of being used with the Web” in response to questions raised at a shareholder meeting about Apple’s plans on supporting Flash on the iPhone.
And yet half a billion (500 million) mobile devices are already shipped with Flash Lite support enabling mobile browser support for Flash content on devices like the Nokia N-series and the Sony Ericsson K800. 18 of the top 20 OEM’s are currently shipping mobile devices with Flash Lite support and today we’re adding Microsoft to that list of OEM partners.
WebORB for .NET is now free
Last night, Midnightcoders announced that they are changing their business model and thereby make WebORB free for every platform they support. That includes their .NET solution. If you’ve never heard of WebORB, it’s more or less like Adobe’s own DataServices solution but specific to .NET back-ends (Midnightcoders also have versions for Java, PHP and Ruby).
WebORB enables seamless integration between .NET server applications and Flex/Flash applications. It allows you to use AMF or RTMP from your .NET server back end to your Flex front-end including more sophisticated communication like data push, remote shared objects and message broadcasting.
If you’re in to .NET development, this is good news since it now allows you to easily combine the power of Flex with the power of the back-end you’re used to with the ease of use AMF & RTMP communication offers. Go check it out.
Sprout beta is now public
Sprout is an easy way to create “widgets” for your site like this onAIR tour countdown for example. Or as they say on their site: “Sprout is a quick and easy way for beginner and pro users to create living content including, websites, banners, videos, music, photos, RSS feeds, calendars and more”

What’s really cool is that their “Sprout Builder” is completely build with Flex and that the Sprouts you build are also small Flex applications. There’s a number of different presets to start from but you can obviously also start from scratch.
