Today Adobe released a first preview version of Squiggly. The Squiggly library allows you to easily add spell checking functionality in any Flex 3 based text control. The distribution package consists of a utility for building your own spelling dictionaries, a sample English dictionary, an ActionScript package that checks individual words for spelling accuracy, and sample code that demonstrates “check as you type” functionality [demo]. At the moment the library only supports English but the team has promised to address this limitation in a future release.

humm so good !
any chance this also works in Flex 4 with spark text components?
License?
Localize locally, cash in globally? For such a big company it’s a shame they cannot support the handful of most used global languages. Microsoft is clearly ahead in this area. It’s also sad that Flex only has localizations for US and JP. Is it sheer arrogance, lack of money, or just yankeeism? I guess it will take a very long time (forever?) until we see more langages supported. I am getting tired of the many half baked stuff that comes out of Adobe. Better focus on quality instead of features for a while, please.
The spelling engine should work with Flex 4. The UI components were not built for Flex 4 spark text components. It is however, in Squiggly’s short term plans to enhance the solution for Flex 4 with spark text components.
I am sorry to hear the “Anonymos” view on Adobe’s efforts to address a global market. We are indeed committed to deliver high quality products to a global audience. We are currently working very diligently towards bringing support for as many languages as possible for our spellchecking solution. The first release of Squiggly was simply a pre-release. It would help us better serve our customers if we know their requirements. Would you mind sharing the markets that you are trying to address using Flex?
