Android week: Win a Google Nexus One!

So today is my birthday… ehr… I mean… Today is the start of Google I/O! To celebrate both occasions, I am giving away a Google Nexus One to one of my readers.

I’m sure you all know that Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2 are coming to mobile devices. In order to win the Google Nexus One I want you to tell me which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device. What have you been missing on your current mobile device? Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android? Just leave a comment below and I will pick a random winner from all entries on Friday May 21st at 12pm GMT.

Easy, huh?

Just a few simple rules:

  • The Google Nexus One phone is unlocked and ready to be used anywhere in the world.
  • I will ship the device anywhere in the world using Fedex.
  • This contest is open to anyone anywhere unless prohibited by law in your country.
  • The winner will be picked randomly.
  • Entries can be submitted until Friday May 21st 11:59am GMT.
  • If you win, you will be notified by email. That means you have to enter a valid email address when you post a comment! If the email bounces, I will pick a new winner.
  • In order to fight spam, the comments on this blog are moderated. Don’t panic if your comment does not appear immediately.

Looking forward to your comments!

UPDATE: This contest is now over. The winner is Patrick Welfringer. Thank you all for your comments!

Debs can’t wait till tommorow @ 12… Hoping it will be my lucky day!!

  2. some webpages are based on flash which makes them unuseable on my milestone. Also i kind of hate having to use the youtube application to watch youtube videos. Maybe there are even some cheap and cool apps coming with flash

  3. I’m looking forward to watching videos and using audiotool.
    Hmm…and maybe building an app or two… (c;

  4. For me it is mainly the Flash video web sites that I would like to be able to use on my Android device. Two sites that I would watch videos are Swedish television’s SVT Play (http://svtplay.se) and South Park (http://www.southparkstudios.com).

  5. Oh man, that would be great to get an Android device! Have been waiting to get one for a while, and what would be greater is if I won one. I love random chance.

  6. Hey Serge!

Flash site most looking forward to:
BBC iPlayer – would love to be able to carry this great service over to my phone. Also Radian6 – a flash app I use for work. Would be useful to have it on the move :)

    What I’ve been missing:
Android 2.1! Using a GSM Hero at the moment and been waiting what seems like forever for the improved Android Market, unified search and the Navigation app

Which application I’d like to build with AIR:
I’d probably build a graphical UI downloader/streamer for the iPlayer service – one step better than visiting the website directly :)

  7. If it would be possible i want to use miniclip.com for games and http://www.gettheglass.com/

  8. Personally, I use YouTube a lot, so that’s probably my 1st choice. I don’t have a high-tech mobile phone right now, so the thing I’m missing most is Wi-Fi connectivity.
The app I’d build in Air for Android would be either a guitar tuner, or a guitar tab auto-scroller based on the song I’m playing :)
    Cheers!

  9. Hey Serge,

i’m one of the poore people still have an iPhone. So currently i’m not surfing that much flash featured websites. So i’m still looking forward for the experience of the real web in my pocket. As long as there is no stable version of the Android for iPhone hack an real Android Phone would help a lot.

    Greetings,
    Sebastian

Being built with Adobe AIR and targeting a wide audience for goal management, I’d like to see http://goalscape.com running on a mobile. Feels more natural to have the whole pack. Initially we were hoping to be able to bundle it for the iPhone as a native app but it’s not the end of the world. Looking forward to seamlessly run it using AIR across multiple devices.

  11. hassami

I’d love to see how flash based sites work on the Nexus phone.
I will be using flash cs5 + Air + Android to build some interactive apps.

  12. sanelou

I would like to be the ONE lucky winner getting the ONE google phone and testing how good the number ONE plugin on the internet will run.

  13. webfraggle

I did some nice simulations for of medical devices. Using these on mobiles or tablet devices would be great.

  14. Timme van der MeerT

I think flash will be great in general, but mostly in watching video’s. But what really gets me excited is apps like beaterator to work on android. Ofcourse it also would be great if that runned in Air.

“Which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device?”

Generally spoken, I’m looking very forward to immersive mobile video sites.

A little more in terms of my fantasies of rocking Flash apps, that would be something like Gowalla or Foursquare crossbred with an art catalogue. Something that enables me to point my advice at some painting in the Louvre and promptly get information about the epoque, th artist, the artwork, the background etc.

“What have you been missing on your current mobile device?”

Flash! I have an iPhone. Bummer.
    A compass.

“Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android?”

Productivity apps that are easy/intuitive to use and help me stay organized.
A peer-to-peer game that uses accelerometer and geolocation.

I am so excited to try out photoshop express and hobnox on the nexus one. It’s very interesting to see how full-featured Flash applications running on a such an awesome mobile device. I am currently using a Nokia E71 that supports Flash Lite 3.1 standalone player, which is very lacking of capabilities compared to flash player 10.1. I really want to have full access to the device management API along with camera, sound and geo-location. With AIR and Flash now running on Android, I could start working on my own Flash social-networking image editing application since it could take advantages of all the new API provided by flash player 10.1

With the one and only real Google phone I want to brag against several of my managers who are showing of their HTC Desire.

  18. I really want to listen to my favo music with Grooveshark on my phone. Besides that I would like to test Flashsites/games & apps on performance and see how the new Flashplayer will be performing comparing to my desktop & laptop.
Most important thing I’ve been missing on my phone for the last few years is acces to the Internet. :P
Would be nice to build a game with Augmented Reality features in it.

Cheers! Hope you had a nice birthday!:)

  19. Oh easy! I would love to be able to use Moodstream on my mobile device!

  20. I would like to be the ONE lucky winner getting the ONE google phone and testing how good the number ONE plugin on the internet will run.

  21. which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device.
Youtube, Vimeo, all of the video sites
and Flash game or animation sites, like miniclip.com or newgrounds.com

What have you been missing on your current mobile device?
Flash Player, e-Compass (I’m using iPhone 3G now)

Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android?
I want to build some casual game.

  22. robbie

    Hi,

It would be great to be able to test/play flash games on the go (i.e. stick cricket). I’ve developed desktop Flash graphs and navigation applications, so it seems now I could potentially refactor/rebuild these to suit the mobile space. I’d need a mobile device to test though (of course!).

My current device is a 1st Gen iPhone that is almost completely destroyed… I really miss 3G/GPS though.

Using AIR I would look to continue the Flash Graphing application that I have been building.

Thank-you for the opportunity to enter :)

  23. Jake Ruesink

My current phone is an old RAZR, I’m everything about a Nexus One would be an improvement for me. Especially the browser, and tethering with FroYo would be very nice! I’m a huge google fan, and I’ll take very good care of the phone.

  24. I want to use Phitodo ( a simple task manager made with FLEX ) on my mobile device.

  25. Daniel Popescu

As a Flex Developer i would use the phone to port my applications on mobile. (ex: a virtual coffee shop), browse all those flash sites out there and test the new Flash Player.

  26. I would dearly love to see flash technology on mobile devices so we can finally let go of the ‘paged’ structure that is such a big part of how we now use websites and most non-gaming apps. Flash will allow a flow of information that we have not yet seen on mobile devices. It can finally bring the continuous online dialog to your pocket where you can participate with others in realtime.

Getting flash to the phone can be a milestone in our mobile experience. Just imagine being able to offer mobile sites with functionality so far only available through apps and more. Combining geographic information with time, direction and flash can allow you to finally create mashups of text, audio and video on everything that holds your interest and that is relevant for your current location. Social beyond a single site or profile. Lets just define it as a mixture of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, wikipedia, Layar, your favorite rss feeds and a professional tourguide who also happens to know all the people in the world.

Did I already say I am looking forward to something that can do this and that I believe Flash and AIR 2 are a definite step forward towards the future of the new mobile web? ;-)

  27. coderenderer

Grooveshark, is far more useful on the go than while at desktop. Being able to use Grooveshark means, carrying an unlimited music library! I missed Grooveshark, and is definitely the site i will mostly use on the phone. I am not really a huge fan of web games while at my desktop, but loves to play around some on my mobile.
I am thinking of building something that could leverage on the improved p2p functionality in FP 10.1

  28. We’re already playing with adobe air in sdk(emulator) for android :) … let’s see if we have a chance to play on a real device

I want to re-build http://office.stoc-studio.ro/www/tribalddb/painting/ this app, as .air app, on your nexus one :)

  29. I really want a mmorpg style game/world app that the realms relate to real world GPS data. IE Im in new York other players are in New York. Theres a specific thing in New York there is a stylized version in the app. Think Foursquare meets WOW, meets ….. Well from there my imagination goes nuts. But spacial contextual worlds/games sound like a cool idea! :)

  30. I’m really looking forward to Flash Player 10.1 on Android, and especially Air for applications. I’ve got some great concepts that i want to build.
If Flash content really run smooth then Android has a huge advantage on the IPhone.

  31. marius

I just want the phone :)

  32. Oh.. that’s great. I want this phone!
Here, in Spain Vodafone has bought all the Nexus One to HTC and have saturated the market. You know… if they can’t have the exclusivity, they buy it…
The apps… Youtube, tv channels and news sites (with a lot of video contents) directly in the browser and a lot of funny games. It will be nice to see some flash application running FLARToolkit augmented reality application like we can see on computer devices. Some Spotiffy application will be nice too.
Many thanks to offer this magnificent phone!!!
    BRAVO!!!

Just goes to show you what you need to do to get a lot of comments. Pick Me!!!!

  34. Anna B

Should I even give this a go? It has to be the most commented post ever. But here goes:

If I had Flash on my iPhone I would definitely surf the LV web all the time. I mean, who doesn’t wanna browse among the new and beautiful bags from such a great company? :P Their fab site is sadly mostly Flash so no chance today.

The one thing I am missing on my phone is Flash, that blue square totally annoys me when surfin’ the web. Come on Jobs! Not to mention the fact that you can’t Skype over 3G. I know it’s up to the phone companies but imagine if you could Skype (with video) while on the go?! One fine day…

As far as building applications go, sadly that won’t happen anytime soon as I prefer to leave programming to the pro’s. :)

    Hi,

I would use flash to browse online video, i.e. News, music videos, etc.

My device is an old winmo piece of junk. I miss a real OS!!

Using AIR I want to build logos/graphics.

  39. I am really excited to develop for AIR on Android. I am making a poker app now.

    BTW, happy Birthday!

  40. Hi,

I’d like flash on android mainly for the many flash webapps you find embedded in webpages, as for now the surfing experience is not optimal. Many sites are just off-limits.

Hope to have flash soon, also on alder devices like the G1.

    Thanks!
    Ben

  41. i’d love to have the flash versions of the graphs in google analytics!

  42. Gregor

    I can’t remember if I’ve left a comment already ;)

    Farmville! Sadly…

Balsamiq will be an excellent tool for prototyping while on the train!

  43. Martijn

  44. Hi there, great exposure :)

    hello,

I would like to see flash on android, because I visit al lot Flashbased websites everyday. Now it’s on a computer, but in near future I can do it on my mobile ( I hope). Some of these siter are; Dumpert.nl and youtube.nl and so on.

There are also flashbased games I like to play.
So as you van see, flash is very important on a mobile device.

I hope I win the Nexus 1. This would make me a very happy person!

    Thanks!

  47. Birju Gurung

I would love to play flash based games on my android device. That would be so cool.

    Thanks.

  48. Stephan

    Wow,

What a nice action! I like to get the N1, here in the Netherlands it’s not availble yet for some reason! I like to test the device, to play with android, to use flash games/webpages and so on!

Dude I like your attitude, I like the way how you give everyone a chance to win this phone.

The only thing I can do is hoping, hoping and hoping.

    Thanks!!!

  49. 1) I’m most looking forward to being able to use the iPlayer, and services like it, on my device. Being able to catch up on TV on the go will be awesome!

    2) I’ve been missing half of the Internet on my device! It sucks seeing blue legos everywhere!

    3) I would like to build lots of applications using AIR for Android, it’ll be awesome to be able to leverage multi-touch in Flash in any app! Anything from a drawing application, to sound generation or image manipulation. AIR on Android is going to rock!

    Mark

  50. will have it timely for my 30th birthday at 13.06 if I’m lucky :)
