Android week: Win a Google Nexus One!

So today is my birthday… ehr… I mean… Today is the start of Google I/O! To celebrate both occasions, I am giving away a Google Nexus One to one of my readers.

I’m sure you all know that Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2 are coming to mobile devices. In order to win the Google Nexus One I want you to tell me which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device. What have you been missing on your current mobile device? Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android? Just leave a comment below and I will pick a random winner from all entries on Friday May 21st at 12pm GMT.

Easy, huh?

Just a few simple rules:

  • The Google Nexus One phone is unlocked and ready to be used anywhere in the world.
  • I will ship the device anywhere in the world using Fedex.
  • This contest is open to anyone anywhere unless prohibited by law in your country.
  • The winner will be picked randomly.
  • Entries can be submitted until Friday May 21st 11:59am GMT.
  • If you win, you will be notified by email. That means you have to enter a valid email address when you post a comment! If the email bounces, I will pick a new winner.
  • In order to fight spam, the comments on this blog are moderated. Don’t panic if your comment does not appear immediately.

Looking forward to your comments!

UPDATE: This contest is now over. The winner is Patrick Welfringer. Thank you all for your comments!

    Happy birthday, again, Serge :)
You have your birthday today, my girlfriend has and Google will launch this huuuuuge event :)

Can this day get any better !?

When it comes to AIR app on Nexus, im def. missing a exchange like app.
At the moment im working though on one :P
What i want to do is to access files easily. I want that my colleagues just paste Code/Images/SWF/FLV/ FLA and so on into this app and it can easily be accessed on the other computer or mobile (FLA isnt gonna work on mobile but others will).

The point is to be able to take a printscreen (most easy on windows since image is stored on clipboard) and just without doing anything special, type CTRL+V on this app.
Similar function will be adapted on mobile too, but the beauty is that you donw have to upload or download these files, this app does.

If you are interested in private Demo, let me know since its kinda hard to explain over text :P

Another AIR app that i think could punch the market could be VOIP, specific for meetings ord group chats, and since Stratus is now better than ever, it will be really Sweet :)

  2. First off, happy birthday serge!

As a Flash Platform Developer i’m looking forward to see and try out any type of Flash Content that i can encounter. But the thing i’m looking most forward to is to actually develop for mobile in AS3 with AIR features. How awesome is that!

I bought myself a HTC Hero not all to long ago and was a little disappointed that it will not support FP 10.1 or AIR for that matter since that’s why i bought it.

So what are the first things i would go look at?

    • Sites that use Papervision or Away3D to see how it performs
    • Try out or look at the Hype Framework Examples
    • See how my twitter api library works on mobile
    • Play some games on Kongregate
    • Be totally pumped to create new and exciting content for mobile :)
    • As Luca already mentioned build a tool for presentations!

    Greets,
    Sandro

  3. First of all Happy Birthday again Serge! :-)

With AIR on Android I would like to create mobile version of my existing business apps and see how it can complement a web or desktop version. I’m also more and more interested in location based apps so expect me to play with it :-)

In term of websites, i just want to have the same experience in both my desktop and mobile browser.

  4. Yikes! forgot to wish ya many many happy returns of the day!

No need to post this comment, just sending it your way to wish you a very happy bday :)

  5. There are so many amazing websites and games build in Flash that I can’t decide which I’m looking forward the most. Most importantly I want a browsing experience I’m used to on my desktop, I want to watch video’s, visit amazing websites, play games and run AIR applications.
As Flash developer and a big fan of AIR I want to build my own applications and start playing with the new fancy API’s in 10.1. My head is bursting of ideas and can’t wait to get my hands dirty!

    It’s a very exciting time to be a Flash Lover/Developer :)

  6. For inspiration:

    http://vimeo.com/

    Love the community there.

Apps I want to use and build.

    - secret application 1.
    - Flex cms (currently online but thought about cutting down a simple AIR2 version);
    - secret camera application 2
    - Use, Terryprton1 flash game catalog

What I have been missing on mobile is that I want build small AIR apps and play. The main thing is I can whip up flex based apps like making breakfast and want to translate my skills into mobile devices! That is what is missing with mobiles – me!

Data, Google services, UI equals potency!

  7. The best whishes also from me, Serge,

i can’t wait for the AIR Version for Android and to develop some crazy shit for my Legend – Android is getting bigger and bigger and as a Flash-Developer it’s great to see what is going round in the near feature.

    Keep up your amazing work

    LG, Boris

  8. My company builds flex websites, if I would have flash on my phone, I could show them to everyone.
That is what I currently miss on my old phone: a browser, and certainly a fully featured browser (e.g.: Flash enabled)

I’m thinking of creating an AIR application to control my Mp3 Media Center (also an AIR app)
Would be so cool to switch between songs through my phone.

  9. steven

Thinking about building an iPhone emulator in AIR…

  10. Anthony

    Happy birthday

I love sport related sites such as tsn.ca or cbcsports.ca. These two sites are ones that I would be looking forward to using.

  11. happy birthday indeed serge, nice idea to give gifts away for the occasion.

with a nexus one, it would be perfect to play all the games a lot of creators took time to develop with flash, just like this adaptation of super mario (http://www.kenney.nl/game.php?id=supermariostarscramble2)

with a phone like that, i could more easily develop apps that could communicate with max msp or processing, so that i can then use my phone as a control device to create digital music.

thanks for posting such an opportunity.

  12. I’m looking forward to seeing any Flash on my phone since i’m using an iPhone at the moment. Can’t wait to actually be able to get the full experience as was promised me a while ago.

Papervision websites would certainly be part of the experience, i’m quite curious how papervision will behave on mobile phones and if it would be possible to make basic papervision app’s for mobile devices. FWA would definitely be bookmarked on my phone.

As i said before i’m missing Flash on my current mobile device, together with all the other iPhone users.

An application i would like to build would be a social syncing app, be able to easily share contacts and data with friends and family.

  13. Benjamin Rodde

    Happy birthday Serge!

Can’t wait to see Flash on Android (and WebOS) devices. I’m sure it’ll rocks.

    Greets,

  14. In order to win the Google Nexus One I want you to tell me which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device.
I have no idea, but I’m sure i will come up with one if I start using it :)

What have you been missing on your current mobile device?
Seriously, watching those facebook videos say “Sorry, can’t display yet…”

Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android?
Sorry, no AIR developer but I’ll give it a try then :)

  15. Hi Serge… and happy birthday!

I really look forward to see how are going to perform those video streaming websites still working with the old good non-optimized flash video player like http://www.megavideo.com just to say one.

I would like to play around with AIR2 too… for example building an Android version of some of the Flash Lite apps i’ve developed for Nokia devices!

    Best,
    -Leo

  16. Wow am I excited for Froyo! I can’t wait to use flash to access sites like megavideo to watch shows, kongregate to instantly turn my phone into a gaming machine, and be able to access multimedia across the web for things like slideshows, videos and more.

Air is exciting insofar as delivering content to users will be seamless and beautiful, and we will be able to create truly interactive content for users (and myself!) to play with.

  17. First off happy birthday Serge!!

About the Android + Air + Flash.

Well, what can I say? I’m truly exited to be able to take in my 6 years experience as a Flash / Flex and work on some cool and exclusive apps for it!

The application I will try to work on is a Bonsai Manager with integration across three types of environment. Web – Desktop – Mobile.

With Flash and Air you can code once and deliver all across the media and that’s my idea. You can set alerts on each bonsai day / monthly care and have all type of information regarding age, style, etc.

Since it’s all integrated in the same web services, you can access all data wherever you are! Off course I will take advantage of Air’s local data storage that will update on the fly and many many more cool features!

That’s the beauty of Flash + Adobe services!

I will take the time to explain to you in a more detailed way if you want.

Since I don’t have an Android phone, I would need one for testing the apps eheh

Oh, and this will be an exclusive for Android ;)

  18. YES! This phone is like hot sex! :D

I wanna play on onemorelevel.com. while stuck in traffic or at a boring dinner party :D

  19. Primarily my own sites :-) http://www.lunchtimers.com for example, I want to see how well the jigsaw game works on a touch screen.
But BBC iPlayer will also be a nice to have.

    Cheers

    Stefan

  20. Markus

    Congratulations to your birthday. :-)

I visit your blog quite regular and I really like it. Keep posting so much interesting stuff.

    Greeting from Germany.

    Markus

  21. I’m eager to start developing applications for Android using AIR 2. We have some cool ideas for mobile applications, and if we can use our AS3 skills, it’d be a win!

Uhmm, a web I’d like to see running in Android… what about papervision3d.org? Do you thing it would be possible to run this 3D engine in Android? The possibilities would be awesome!

    Regards,

  22. What I would love most, is the ability to really easily create my own apps. Right now I have a WM6.1 phone and just this week I was looking for a good metronome-app to help me play the piano. I couldn’t find a (free) decent one, but it would be fairly easy to write one myself in Flash/Air. I don’t have a particular app in mind (that I would like to build), but I would probably just build a whole lot of small applications that would make my life easier.

An existing app I would like to use, is the vrt news player so that I can watch the 1 o clock news feed. And of course, I would love to be able to play the 100 000 great Flash games there are available today!

  23. Happy birthday!
I’m looking forwards to playing with Wonderfl.net on the bus on the way to work!
I’ve been missing out on lots of things with my current device, starting with a colour screen and going on from there…
And I’ve got an awesome (IMHO) puzzle game, all coded up and ready for testing – which I’m thinking about saving for AIR for Android – so i’d love to be able try it out!
    Finger crossed!

  24. Thomas Vandebuerie

    Happy Birthday Serge!

Last time I said this was at 2M09, and at 2M10 it wasn’t your birthday! :-)
Very interesting KeyNote by the way.. Although I went to San Francisco in Spring Break.
We visited Adobe Headquarters, and we already saw some things there!

I would visit thefwa site with my mobile device (and the winning site of the day ofcourse).
Newgrounds would also be checked at regular times.
As wel as certain flash apps that I would download (I really don’t know what exists..).

I guess there’s one thing to say: See you at 2M11!

  25. BBC iplayer
On my Sony Ericsson C905 I can some times get the BBC iplaye stream via the internal video software but most of the time is says it can’t connect to the server, that’s not an experience I’m very happy with.

  26. It’s a good idea to write app for planning own time or sport/health manager on air. Given that air can run under any os.

  27. Happy birthday!

In fact, the first thing which is missing on my phone is…. accees the Internet. Once I have it, for sure, I can browse the whole internet. About the applications I can build with AIR 2 for android, I would build an application which can leverage LCCS / Stratus audio and video capabilities, with some geolocalization… but there are so much other possiblities…

  28. Rien Verbrugghe

Which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device:
    - Adobe ConnectNow

What have you been missing on your current mobile device?
    - Longer battery life

Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android?
    - QR code reader
    - Game controller for projected Air app using Stratus

  29. Hi there! Happy birthday for you sir :)

A website which i really want to see works flawlessly on android is newgrounds.com. Why? simply because creative minds are gathering there! Not only flash game, but also flash animation, and whenever someone submit their flash content, people will always give constructive suggestion or opinion. This website truly shows the world what flash can do to help realize people’s creative idea.

And for AIR on Android, we really wish to port our Newsreader with TLF at its core (Newyork Times alike but with local content, see http://www.facebook.com/bacakompas), and test whether Air on android can do things like AIR on Desktop.

    Cheers,
    Inas Luthfi

Ahh, simple… Hulu… if my carrier doesn’t block it.

  31. Can’t wait for Flash and AIR on my Android. If I don’t win the Nexus One, I’ll need to start updating (read: rooting) my HTC Magic. :)

What I hope to see is a lot more applications to use with some of my favourite websites like Vimeo, Flickr and others.

I also like the fact that Kindle is coming this summer with an app for Android. But I would like to see more e-readers and magazines using their mobile potential. I believe AIR will be a good option for this. And I hope to see an application that will help magazines publishing their content on mobile devices more easily.

  32. I’m looking forward to being able to create my own content, whether web or AIR and being able to deliver and view it on a mobile device without having and dictatorship telling me what can and can’t be viewed on it.

  33. Hey Serge, best wishes. Giving away presents on your birthday that is very kind! I am looking forward to FP 10.1. Not only for the android but for all mobile devices. So curious how all my work runs on mobile. I would like to make an application which can communicate with app’s that run on PC’s or Mac’s. A remote control. See if that works out with FP10.1.
    Groetjes,
    Rob

  34. It has to be Box2D, everyone demos video but I don’t care abour video. If Box2D performs well on Android, then I can start migrating my lovely little puffballs to it

    Happy B-day!

I’m waiting for Air for Android to build some simple tools i need all the time. They don’t exists as apps like i need them so i’ll write my own. But basically it’s a meeting organizer or similiar tools.

What i really wanna do is using the cam, FLART and maybe the accelerometer to create an AR-Game like ARhrrrr (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNu4CluFOcw) when the time is right and i think THAT would kick Steve’s ass :p

What i’m missing now is playing games from kongregate or armorgames on the bus or train.

  36. Happy BD, Serge!

Would’n it be nice to have an Android App allowing to remote control Youtube/Adobe-TV/Vimeon, … right on my HTPC?
There are some remote controls available out there but none is really intuïtive/user-friendly …

  37. Heinrich

We are building business apps to support sales processes and optimize communication in big enterprises. I’d love to see these on mobile.

    Happy Birthday, Serge!

    Heinrich

    1. What site/apps? There’s a lot of those random flash games that pop up all the time in news aggregation sites like reddit. I read this site from my mobile a lot, and I don’t like seeing a fun game and having to wait until I get home in order to play it. So this would definitely make me happy.
Furthermore, I’d love to be able to use Grooveshark’s website, since the Android app isn’t up-to par (it’s in beta).

    2. What’s missing on android? I feel like there aren’t many high quality games. Hopefully with flash and OpenGl 2.0 ES coming out soon, we’ll be getting some better content. Furthermore, I’d love to see just more general support from bigger companies.

    3. Which AIR application do I want? I want Grooveshark’s desktop application. It seems to be a lot more stable and if the Flash version isn’t working perfect on the phone then hopefully the application will be a better alternative to the faulty app.

This is an amazing thing you’re doing, btw :P… Oh, and happy birthday!

  39. shred

Some months ago we arranged a weekend away with the whole family (parents, brothers-sisters and their wives-husbands and children)… and off course just that weekend we now will have elections in Belgium. I could use a nexus one with a flash player to get back to the family reunion that Sunday, and still be able to follow all the election results on the various Belgian news sites (who use flash videos, and flash widgets to show the election results). Thanks in advance… ;-)

  40. WoW, well first of rocking an age old Sony-Ericsson (as my newer got stolen) is not idea of fun phone usage =S
A Nexus ONE would fit nicely with my newly started business ;D

As for apps, wow where to starta.AIR is such a nice platform with so many good apps that I just can’t choose. The phone could easily get “cluttered” =P *heheheh*

  41. Dorothy Meulewaeter

    1) Youtube (+ all other video sites)
    2) Stepcounter (=callories, km walked, etc.)
    3) QR code reader

  42. Mariusz Dalewski

First of all Happy Birthday Serge!

In my opinion, we need good multi media platform for watching streams (like youtube but not only), listening music, manage your own media library (synchronized with your pc/laptop and other flash available device). This application should be integrated with community pages (fb, twitter, …) to share information about your favourite music and video.

    Mariusz Dalewski

  43. To start with: happy birthday!

I currently own an old school Nokia N73: biggest lack for me is decent Flash support. Most non-Flash sites I use have a mobile version which works fine, but some Flash sites I like to check at a regular interval (like Beatport for example) don’t have the same rich experience on mobile devices. I hope FP10.1 & AIR2 could bring an end to that ‘handicap’.

What I’m looking forward to from a developers perspective is the ability to use local storage as a decent alternative when working offline. Most mobile web applications lack a decent offline mode.

An application I’d like to develop for mobile devices would be a RSS reader which has a cache function. One could download a RSS feed at home, get in the car and filter articles based on short content while stuck in a traffic jam. When logging on again the application could sync with an online database marking articles as read/archived/…

Of course I’d also love to explore the boundaries of a mobile device and see how far it can be pushed performance wise by creating more CPU intense Flash applications, although I have the feeling that devices such as the Nexus One’s abilities will be more then enough to meet the needs.

  44. - which site(s)/app(s)/game(s);

I’m looking forward to viewing the content on sites that I usually view on my laptop such as video snippets on the BBC website.

    - missing on my current mobile device;

I’d like a nice geo-tagging camera app that uses open street map.

    - Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android?

Maybe some multimedia learning objects based on some existing Flash-based assets.

  45. Lesley

I Look forward to see dumpert.nl video’s in flash and it would be great if uitzendinggemist.nl would work. I hope Google I/O will have some nice news for us :)

  46. Flash is opening up a whole new world in mobile phones. Of course the gaming and movie elements are most mentioned in the replies. What I think should be really worth implementing is: streaming video and applications like ustream or sopcast. In this way we can use our mobile phone for every case thinkable, by bringing video on demand to mobile phones.

  47. Markus Hesper

    Happy Birthday Serge!

I love my Hero … though i was deeply dissapointed due to the lack of flash support on the “1st android smartphone with flash”.

I also had a quick look into native android developement and i found it pretty hard for me as i am a flash developer … but with AIR on Android i could finally start developing at a decent speed ;) !

First thing i would port for android would be my very first flash game that i created long time ago when i was at university. Can´t say to much but i think its gonna be fun!

    cheers
    markus

  48. Happy birthday !!

What I’d love the most would be to have things like remote controls to control other things like my own computer or other devices with my phone,

and what i’d like to build Real-time multiplayer games using stratus for short-but-fun games party with decent games :-)

  49. Mário Santos

    First, Happy Birthday!!!

Second, How! Giving a nexus one? that’s cool!

Well, for sure i want to have access to the real “full web experience”, and there are thousands of sites to visit, but some ones like vimeo, the FWA, because i’m a flex developper for sure having access to Air 2 and Flash on mobile devices will for sure change and value my work. There are some cool applications like acrobat.com, adobe media player, and much more… About games, i’m not a big fan…

On my actual device i really miss the flash power! ;)

To android, i really hope to be able to migrate some of my existent applications, and also to buit some new ones, like a mobile access to a intranet CRM, a sales manager with clients orders. Well… hope this possible soon :)

    Good luck to everyone!

    Cheers!

  50. Happy B-Day

    - I want to see http://www.parleys.com; http://www.hln;be (News site)

    - What i’ve been missing on my current mobile device is: GPS, navigation, geo-tagging, reading my mail.

    - I’m searching for a new house. So an application that helps my find a new house.
