Android week: Win a Google Nexus One!

So today is my birthday… ehr… I mean… Today is the start of Google I/O! To celebrate both occasions, I am giving away a Google Nexus One to one of my readers.

I’m sure you all know that Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2 are coming to mobile devices. In order to win the Google Nexus One I want you to tell me which site(s)/app(s)/game(s) (built with Flash) you are most looking forward to using on your mobile device. What have you been missing on your current mobile device? Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android? Just leave a comment below and I will pick a random winner from all entries on Friday May 21st at 12pm GMT.

Easy, huh?

Just a few simple rules:

  • The Google Nexus One phone is unlocked and ready to be used anywhere in the world.
  • I will ship the device anywhere in the world using Fedex.
  • This contest is open to anyone anywhere unless prohibited by law in your country.
  • The winner will be picked randomly.
  • Entries can be submitted until Friday May 21st 11:59am GMT.
  • If you win, you will be notified by email. That means you have to enter a valid email address when you post a comment! If the email bounces, I will pick a new winner.
  • In order to fight spam, the comments on this blog are moderated. Don’t panic if your comment does not appear immediately.

Looking forward to your comments!

UPDATE: This contest is now over. The winner is Patrick Welfringer. Thank you all for your comments!

  1. well happy birthday mate.

i want to see how well the website http://waterlife.nfb.ca/ runs on mobile device’s. As an gadgetfreak/mobile phone freak already used a lot of mobiles and can’t wait to see flash running smoothly. Also i’m still waiting for silverlight. with both flash and silverlight on a mobile i don’t need a notebook anymore hahaha.

    kind regards
    Elroy

  2. Stephan

Can’t wait till flash comes available.
Apple just don’t know what there missing.

  3. Michael Jones

Kongregate, for sure. Working flash and Kongregate would open up a whole world of mobile gaming, as well as a fantastic social network.

  4. Hi,

With AIR on Android I am going to port my AirFM application (http://code.google.com/p/airfm/). Also I wanna try GPS with AIR and build android version of another my application called “Twits around me” (http://denisvolokh.blogspot.com/2010/04/twits-around-me-revamped-and-extended.html) and extend it with some nice features.

  5. I am looking forward to using TweetDeck and http://www.grooveshark.com on the Google Nexus One

    hi serge,

First, I want Adobe Acrobat.com to work with my Android cos’ I always wanted an app that I can use it for file storage, document creation and web conferencing. Also I miss SlideRocket on my mobile because it’s very interesting app for presentations.

Second, I really lose a lot of things in my N73 like processor speed, multitasking, flash, air and a nice look and feel. I know all of these features are included in Nexus One :).

Third, I’d like to build a lot of apps for my Android like tank battle game and a cool enterprise app which I will use with my colleagues.

Please choose me cos’ we don’t have Nexus One in Qatar until now and when it ships it will be x3 the price! just like iphone(orginal price:$199, Qatar price:$657~)

  7. Hi Serge – Happy birthday of course.

Here’s the most annoying thing missing in the Android market: a decent native Flickr client to browse, search, upload en manage your flickr content. There are various “flickr uploader” tools available, but nothing is available which even comes close to (AIR) apps like Flickroom (have a look at http://flickroom.org/). On the iPhone there is an official flickr app and various feature rich 3rd party apps, but non available for the Android. Consolidation of Flickr with other social network medias (like Flickroom does with Twitter and Facebook), as well as location aware service integration like the 4SQ API (http://foursquare.com/apps/) would push an android device to the next level.

    Hope this helps!
    Regards, Michel (NL)

  8. Happy birthday!!

The thing that i really want is to watch youtube from within the browser. I don’t like it that it is switching to another app right now… I would also like to see game websites, some of those sites are fully in flash.

  9. cristi

    Happy Birthday!

I already own a Motorola Milestone and I’m looking forward to create AIR applications targeting the Android platform!

I’m interested to find out and maybe the winner can test for me how the http://www.joci.ro website is behaving right now on a mobile device :)

  10. Congratiolations on your birthday!

I’m mainly looking foreward for Vimeo, and any blog with embedded video posts.

And an Air application I would like to see (or develop) is a nice Last.fm client since the native client is not available in my country.

  11. behived

    Sites i want to visit:
I am just looking forward to have a real full browser experience on my phone instead of a limited version of the web.

App i am going to build for android:

As a vinyl collector I want to build a “collector’s app”, where you can easily add a new item in your collection. Taking a picture, with your phone, adding details as title, artist, tracks, rating of the disc’s condition, …
As my collection is growing larger it’s difficult to keep track of what I have already… :)

  12. Hi there Serge!

It may sound stupid but it would be so cool if in time with AIR and other updates we could be able to play Wii games and so on, through our Android. They already have accelerometer so this wouldn’t be much updates away right?! :)
What I’ve been missing on my Android is basicly of course a longer battery but mostly and I think everyone misses this, apps on SD card! now it’s coming with Froyo so that will be one thing I no longer have to miss. So in that place I would have to say a security link in which you will be able to access your phone through your laptop when you’ve lost it. And last but not least, a way to watch all the Youtube films, not some but all!

In Holland the Android hype keeps on growing and well, who’s surprised :D How does that go in your countries? Happy Birthday Serge and good luck with the great phonestunt! Have a nice week!!

  13. Nabeel Molham

Well The sites I most miss on my mobile ( Nokia E71 ) are two : adobe TV and The FWA .
The Applications I will build for Android are all my clients application I will convert it all for Android and encourage my clients to buy Android.

  14. Flint

Happy birthday Serge, make it count ;-)

I couldn’t resist participating for this one :-D
    - Site(s)/App(s)/Game(s) i’m totally missing on my mobile right now are: the FWA and every link posted there, hobnox, World dominator game!, my own apps & games
    - I’ve been looking forward to developing my own apps & games in flash for my mobile but it seems I won’t be able to do so… So i’m really looking forward to develop apps that I can use on android!
    - I want to build games with flash for mobile devices!

    grtz,
    F.

  15. William

I look forward to look to nice flashsites. Also i look forward to Dailymotionvideos!

  16. Patrick

I will first use the Nexus One to test and optimize my existing Flash websites, to make sure they are fit for mobile viewing.

I am also looking forward to finally “get access to the full web” during my daily commutes: on my iPhone I can only read the text content Flash and Flex blogs, whereas on the Nexus One I will be able to see the Flash experiments and Flex examples in action!

I will also use the Nexus One to teach a Flash module for a university’s mobile course. The hands-on session will make the students build an AIR app… a photo gallery, or a Twitter app are always popular :)

And finally, I will probably port some simple Flash games and visual experiments to AIR apps for my children, and let them surf on their favourite sites – all of which are Flash of course, eg:
    http://www.theworldofvictor.net
    http://www.poissonrouge.com

  17. luuk snijder

I’m looking forward to see http://www.dumpert.nl on my mobile!!

  18. Karol Podkowski

    Happy Birthday Serge! ;)

Except from all the Flex CMSs I have created for my customers over the years and my own e-commerce and contest platform built with Flex as well I don’t think I have website I’m waiting for the most. It’s just that I’m waiting to simply be able to see all Flash content on my phone and run apps like De MonsterDebugger (I wonder if it will work) and Times Reader.

    Cheers,
    Karol

  19. looking forward to play drooling games like on the iphone but much better with adobe flash!!!

  20. First of all I like to wish you a Happy Birthday.

I’m still working on a crappy Windows Mobile phone but I would love to change to a Android phone. Especially when I’m able to play Flash movies and Games on it. When I would have a Nexus one I would go to: http://www.classicgamesarcade.com/ and play all kinds off classical games.

If more phones would have the ability to play flash, not everything has to be build in Java-script.

    Everybody the best of luck.

    Greetz,

    Armando

  21. I would love it when sites with Silverlight would come available, but also non-YouTube video sites like Vimeo. That’s one side of the story… on the other hand it would be nice if html5 could take over the world. 8-)

  22. Happy birthday!

What sites am I most looking forward to using on my mobile device?

    All of them :)

What have you been missing on your current mobile device?

    Everything :(

Which application do you want to build with AIR for Android?

It has been many years since I did some basic “development” (and experiments) in Flash. I’d probably have a go at some kind of semi-educational interactive game for my 3 year old daughter.

  23. thomas

I am looking forward to much more good games on android !! and I am looking forward to integrated movies in websites. and I can look at all that with my new nexus one :-) thank you ;-)

  24. I would like to port the Virunga National Park iphone application.
I think it’s quite easy to port the app with adobe air. All features in the app are possible with air on android.
    Extra info:
A mobile phone application has been launched to help protect the critically endangered mountain gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The app, called iGorilla, allows users of iPhones and iPads to follow the lives of gorilla families in the remote forests of the Virunga National Park.
Each app costs $4 (£3), with most of the money going to the park.
The mountain gorilla population has been reduced by poaching, civil conflict, deforestation and disease.
But conservation work is helping to secure the remaining 720 animals, with an estimated 211 of the great apes living in the park.
The new app, launched by the Virunga National Park, allows users to choose a gorilla family, find out about individual members and follow their lives through reports, photographs and videos.
The park straddles the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda, covering 7,800 sq km (3,000 sq miles).
It was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1979.

  25. Can’t wait for all the flash Site’s/App’s/Games, got a G1 and !!STILL!! does not support flash:S

  26. Vladislav Korobov

    Happy birthday!
Once I developed Interactive Park Map for desktop touch screen http://bit.ly/aPGcg1 (FP 9)
This terminals stand at different places.
So customer wanted to build that map for iPhone. And than … apple change ….
    Now we have Android.
So I would like to see different park maps on mobile devices which alrady made in Flash
I like my iPhone but I like Flash too. My next mobile will be Android. Freeeedooooom :)
I will be miss about bounse easing scrolling of iPhone
I whant to build free TIMER application with AIR for Android. (many features)

  27. Hi there Serge,

I would like to see Flash support for the following site:
Miniclips.com -> So we could play some free little flash games without downloading the full game in the market.

Next to that I would like to see a flash based Twitter-client. With flash enabled it could improve the looks of those apps. With nice animations when you receive a new tweet or reply.

Hopefully the developers will read all these comments.

    Greetings!

  28. I’m really looking forward to a lot of the apps we already have being ported over such as some of the twitter apps. I’m also looking forward to having the ability to create prototypes to show the client our ideas on an actual device and having Flash/Air will make this so quick and simple.

  29. happy birthday! ( :

I’m looking forward to the 2.2

  30. I’d like to use slideshare on my android browser.

  31. Sacarino

I use to play some facebook games like Bjewelled and make some courses with moodle and flash contents.

  32. Look forward to being to watch Vimeo and ppstream. Not too fused about games. But would be cool to have nicer twitter apps.

  33. Geoffrey

I’m looking forward not to use one site in particular, but all the websites that have small but essential part written in flash: Menus, upload forms, slideshows, etc. I’m always coming across those limitations while browsing on mobile devices, and it is a pain.

Air-wise, I have a couple of air apps that I wanna port to android, see how it handles it, whether or not it is efficient. After all I am a developer, and I want a platform for me to do my job.

  34. Guilherme

Is is too good to be true. Part of me thinks that this is fake. But other part of me can’t completely dismiss the fact that I could actually Win a Nexus One and enjoy all glory of CyanogenMod! :-D please please please please please please please

  35. Richard

    Hi serge
the best thing for me….Justin.tv…and live shows wherever I am :)

  36. I’m a bit tired of waiting on my Hero upgrade. A Nexus would be nice ;-).

    Marijn

  37. I would like to play with all the flashgames on http://www.flashgames.it or watch videos on http://www.megavideo.com from my mobile browser…..xD
    Thanks
    Andrea

  38. I’m using an htc magic. I miss skype, miss the ability to watch any flash video. It would be so nice to play flash games, when I’m bored and sitting on a bus in a traffic jam. :-)

  39. Happy Birthday, Serge!

I am mostly looking forward to be able to look up graphic designers portfolios on the go. A lot of them use flash. : /

    Party hard,

    Luis

  40. Hi Serge, I would really love to use Kuler on a Nexus One !

  41. I would like to see websites such as http://www.engadget.com and http://www.hulu.com to be released in flash. Engadget is my favourite site, because it’s allround tech site!

Furthermore i would like to see space invader and a shooter gama ala Doom/Quake in Flash.
My opinion is that flash is still the basis of all! It is stable and the tecnhique and graphics are simple and unique!

I would be great if Android would support profiles (for ringtones) and that the video and music app would be nicer and more advanced (xvid, divx and avi support). A good and stable office program, just like Google doc integration I would appreciate! Evn like PDF. Multimedia means also office integration!

  42. Scott

I can’t wait to be able to first see the Australian rules football site on my phone- http://www.afl.com.au and then i can finally listen to the game on my phone- it is only streamed thru the flash website. I have been missing this plus an fm radio- hopefully the rumours of fm radio coming are also true!

i want to build an app the is a gym workout program that has how to do exercises etc in it- flash vids of them would be great…..there are a lot of workout programs but none tailored to the serious weightlifter/bodybuilder.

  43. Rein Tijm

I really miss a specially designed Adobe (AIR) webbrowser on my Android phone, that would be really cool.

  44. Happy birthday ;-)

I would like to play a couple of games from http://www.addictinggames.com, don’t know how well they can be played on a mobile but at least some games should be playable ;-)

  45. Chris Pugsley

Definitely got to be Kongregate(http://www.kongregate.com), hands down! So many classic games on there, will definitely help plug the gap in the current Android gaming market.

  46. Hooty

I can’t wait, as Flash is required to complete the whole multimedia experience on the net. With out Flash the internet feels like that of 1995. So what are we missing with Flash:

    - access to video sites: Liveleak, Break, CNN

    - access to music sites: Shoutcast, Grooveshark

    - games (don’t really play)

    - a tonne of websites that are sometimes exclusively Flash

    Android will soon be complete.

  47. Yeey, eager to get. It!
    Happy b-day btw…

  48. Happy birthday!!

  49. Sucalakafufu

I would love to see how weebls.com works on the N1. Also, miniclip games would be great to test the capabilities of Mobile Flash Gaming!

  50. Dre van Driel

    Congrats!
what i would like to see in the apps department is a flickr app which does more than just update, a collection app (for multiple collections: LP’s, books, comics), a way to easily tranfer links i come across surfing to my homePC. A good world radio app would be nice too.

What i would like to see is that i wouldn’t be dissapointed again when i’m surfin the web (using my htc hero) and having to wait untill i get home to see a site in its full glory.. youtube for the most part doesn’t do it for me (lame vids) and things i want to watch are not available..

Still not a developer, i think i will become one, once i have a machine to make it easy to do so!
the best of luck to all of us 8-)
