Help shape the future of the Flash Platform tools

The Flex SDK, Flash Builder, Catalyst, and Flash Professional product teams are looking for your input. The teams are currently running a survey to gauge your current usage and satisfaction with Flex and Flash tooling, and to understand how you would prioritize the next generation of features.

The product teams take these surveys very seriously and it is therefore the ideal opportunity to help shape the future of the Flash Platform tools.

The survey should only take about 15 minutes to complete and your responses will remain completely confidential.

Go to the survey.

Online YouTube viewing parties with YouTube Social

Here’s another great example of how powerful the Flash Platform has become… YouTube Social allows you to simultaneously watch YouTube videos with your friends in an easy to use Flash based application built with Flex by SocialVision.

You can easily invite your friends from Facebook to join your viewing party or you can just send someone the URL. Once they join the party the video you’re watching starts playing on their screen. It starts at the exact same point that you are currently watching.

Creating Mobile Component Skins with Flash Catalyst “Panini”

I realized this morning that MAX is just around the corner and I didn’t even tell you about my session yet. Now how did that happen? I kinda got caught up in working on the MAX Unawards application and completely lost track of time. All of a sudden it was the middle of September and I realized that I didn’t even book my travel for MAX yet… Aaah… Time flies when you’re having fun! ;-) I’m working on an extra app for the MAX Unawards by the way… It’ll make it even more fun! More on that next week!

Now… About my session at MAX. I’ll be talking about Flash Catalyst and more specifically about the upcoming “Panini” preview release. I’m going to demonstrate how Flash Catalyst can help you build skins for the upcoming Flex “Hero” framework.

Learn how you can bring bitmaps and FXG designs into optimized components for mobile using the upcoming Flex “Hero” framework. In this session, Serge Jespers, Adobe Flash Platform evangelist, will demonstrate how you can create basic static skins for Flex Hero mobile components using the upcoming “Panini” preview release of Flash Catalyst.

Flash Player 10.1 on the Samsung Galaxy Tab

As if I really needed another reason to want this tablet…
I’m extremely jealous of Ben right now… ;-)

Flash Player “Square”: 64-bit on Windows, OSX and Linux

Native 64-bit support is one of the most requested features for Flash Player so I’m sure this news is going to make a lot of people happy. Today we’re releasing a preview of Flash Player “Square” which includes native 64-bit support.

Today we’re making available a preview of Adobe Flash Player that we’re calling “Square.” This preview includes support for two new areas, namely enhanced support for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 Beta and native 64-bit support for all major desktop operating systems including Linux, Mac, and Windows.

This is obviously very exciting news but please keep in mind that this is a preview release.

We’ve found “Square” to be stable and ready for broad testing, but keep in mind this a sneak peek and not everything will be fully baked. Those using the previous 64-bit version of Flash Player for Linux should find this new version even faster and more stable.  If you encounter any issues, I’d encourage you to file a bug in our public database [https://bugs.adobe.com/flashplayer/] so we can investigate.

More info on the Flash Player Team blog. The download is now available on Adobe Labs.
