Upcoming events: Meet the PlayBook, CS5.5 Evolution Tour, Multi Mania, Webinale
Traditionally May and June seem to be the busiest months of the year and it’s no different this year.
Later today I’m taking the Eurostar to London and will join the CS5.5 Evolution Tour crew for the CS5.5 event in London. There’s still some room left if you want to join us but you may want to register right now as I’m sure we will be closing registration soon. I’ll also be joining the CS5.5 Evolution Tour in Amsterdam next week. If you’re an Adobe UserGroup member you can even sign up for a special device update and may even go home with a brand new device. The day after the CS5.5 Evolution Tour stops in Amsterdam you can find us in Kortrijk for Multi Mania. This will be my 7th consecutive year at Multi Mania… Time flies… Registration for Multi Mania is still open so get your free tickets now!
If you happen to be in Amsterdam next Thursday you may want to check out the Meet The PlayBook event. It’s a great opportunity to get to know the power of the BlackBerry PlayBook and learn how you can build apps for it using Flash Builder 4.5. Sadly I won’t be able to make it to this event myself (I’m doing a guest lecture at the University of Ghent) but my colleague Piotr will show you all the good stuff.
Later this month I’ll also be speaking at Webinale in Berlin. I’ve never been to Webinale but I only heard good things about it so I’m really looking forward to it.
Hope to see you at one of these events!
Upcoming events: DroidCon, Beyond Tellerrand, FITC Amsterdam
Can you believe that we’re already 11 days in to 2011? My god… time flies! At this rate it’ll be Christmas again next week! My calendar for the first couple of months of 2011 is already filling up rapidly and I’m sure it’ll be the same for you. That’s exactly why I wanted to point out these events that are scheduled for the next coming weeks.
January 21st is the second edition of DroidCon Belgium. As you may have guessed, DroidCon is all about Android. The quick to-the-point 15 minute presentation format will ensure a complete information overload! Tickets are €75 (€25 for students) and are still available.
Beyond Tellerrand is a completely new conference in Cologne Germany organized by the wonderful people behind FFK. This event will be their first conference dedicated to mobile application development. They have a special deal for those who would like to go to both Beyond Tellerrand and FFK. Tomorrow is also the last chance to get an early bird ticket ($50 off) for Beyond Tellerrand! Get it now! (I wonder what Tellerrand actually means ;-))
FITC is always a lot of fun and is coming back to Amsterdam! This year it’s in a different but much bigger venue! Early bird ticket sales end this week so if you didn’t get your ticket yet you better get it today!
UPDATE: You may also be interested in Scotch on the Rocks in Edinburgh on March 3rd and 4th. I’m not speaking there this year but the Fuzzy Oranges are a great bunch and I’m sure they’ll put on another fantastic event.
Adobe User Group XL, November 17th, Amsterdam
If you’re in the Benelux and couldn’t make it to MAX then the Adobe User Group XL event is probably the next best thing. With international speakers from Pixar, BBC, North Kingdom, Achtung, Addikt, Adobe, and more this event is not to be missed.

In the keynote I’ll be talking about and showing Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2.5 running on multiple devices. Adobe Photoshop legend Russel Brown has something special prepared for the keynote as well. I’ll also be doing a session on Flash Builder Burrito and Flash Catalyst Panini and a session on personalized video on the web. If you’re interested in building mobile applications with the Flash Platform then I can highly recommend Mike Jones’ hands-on lab.
Last friday I heard that there are only a few tickets left so if you want to go then make sure you get yours today!
See you in Amsterdam on Wednesday!
Upcoming events
The next few weeks are getting pretty full again but I wouldn’t want it any other way! I have some really amazing conferences/events on my calendar and wanted to share with you where I’ll be the next coming weeks.
- Flex Camp Amsterdam – September 22nd – Amsterdam, The Netherlands
I’ll be talking about AIR for Android. I’ll be showing a bunch of cool demos and will obviously also show you how you can build applications.
- Sneak Preview – September 24th – Genk, Belgium
I’ll be talking about Flash and HTML5. I’ll talk about both technologies’ strengths and weaknesses and hope to debunk some of the myths surrounding them.
- AppsMarathon – September 27th – Brussels, Belgium
The future is mobile! At AppsMarathon I’ll be talking about Flash Player 10.1 and AIR on Android and how you build apps for mobile using the Flash Platform (and maybe/probably some other stuff as well ;-))
- Flash On The Beach – September 27th-29th – Brighton, UK
Flash On The Beach is one of my favorite conferences. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to miss it last year but I’ll make sure that never happens again! FOTB is due to sell out today so hurry up if you still need to get your tickets! I’ll be doing a session on AIR 2 and will also do a “beyond the basics” hands on session on Tuesday and Wednesday on Flash Catalyst.
- AUG Belgium – September 30th – Genk, Belgium
The Belgian Adobe Usergroup is doing a special “After Summer” event. I’ll be talking about something I can’t talk about yet. ;-) More on that later.
- Adobe MAX – October 23rd-27th, Los Angeles, USA
I know I probably say this every year but… MAX is going to be fantastic this year. Don’t have your tickets yet? Early bird pricing ends in 5 days!
I hope to see you at (at least) one of these events!
Adobe/Intel App Lab: Join us online
Adobe and Intel are hosting an event later today in San Francisco around AIR development and distribution. Obviously not all of you live close to the bay area, but the event will be broadcasted live via Connect. You can follow it on http://my.adobe.acrobat.com/applab.
I heard through the grapevine that we may even launch a few new things on Adobe Labs after the event… So join the Connect session and keep an eye on Labs ;-)
I know this event is in the middle of the night for us here in Europe but it will be worth it.
Agenda: ( Time in PST. Check this link for the time in your location. )
5:30 PM – Flash Platform Services Overview (Adobe)
6:00 PM – Intel AppUp Center Business Model and Opportunity (Intel)
7:00 PM – Technical Deep Dive (Adobe)
8:30 PM – Staffed Open Lab (Adobe and Intel)
Upcoming events in Asia: FXUG Osaka, FXUG Tokyo & Mobile Monday Taipei
I am so looking forward to this trip! I’ve been lucky enough to be able to visit Tokyo a few times in the past and it really is one of my favorite cities in the world. On this trip I’ll also visit Osaka and Taipei.
Flex User Group Japan Tour 2010
This tour (11 locations in total) has been going on a for a few weeks now and I will be joining the tour for the last two events. On July 24th we’ll be in Osaka and on the 28th we round up the tour in Tokyo. There are some amazing speakers lined up for both events. Registration is free but required.
I absolutely do not speak any Japanese but I’ll try to learn a few words before the events ;-) If you want to have an idea on what that would sound like, check out this video and don’t laugh too hard ;-)
For registration and more info, check out http://tour.fxug.net/2010
Mobile Monday Taipei
As I am in “the neighborhood” I am also travelling to Taipei, Taiwan where I will be speaking at Mobile Monday on August 2nd. More info will be posted soon on http://www.mobilemonday-taipei.com
Even though it’s a really long trip I’m really looking forward to it!
