Adobe User Group XL, November 17th, Amsterdam

If you’re in the Benelux and couldn’t make it to MAX then the Adobe User Group XL event is probably the next best thing. With international speakers from Pixar, BBC, North Kingdom, Achtung, Addikt, Adobe, and more this event is not to be missed.

In the keynote I’ll be talking about and showing Flash Player 10.1 and AIR 2.5 running on multiple devices. Adobe Photoshop legend Russel Brown has something special prepared for the keynote as well. I’ll also be doing a session on Flash Builder Burrito and Flash Catalyst Panini and a session on personalized video on the web. If you’re interested in building mobile applications with the Flash Platform then I can highly recommend Mike Jones’ hands-on lab.

Last friday I heard that there are only a few tickets left so if you want to go then make sure you get yours today!

See you in Amsterdam on Wednesday!

Leonard Nimoy hosting MAX Awards (+exclusive rehearsal photo)

Adobe MAX is now only 2 weeks away and I’ve been hearing some amazing rumors about what we have lined up for you. One of those things I heard a few weeks ago was that none other than Leonard Nimoy will be hosting the MAX Awards and Sneak Peeks together with our own Ted Patrick.

Rehearsals are well underway and an anonymous source just sent me this picture from last week’s rehearsals. ;-)

You do not want to miss the MAX Awards and Sneak Peeks! See you in Los Angeles!

Adobe MAX – Are you smarter than a Flash evangelist?

I’m not entirely sure how I got tricked in to this… We are so going to get our behinds kicked ;-) but I’m sure it will be a lot of fun!

On Day 2 of this year’s MAX, on the community pavilion stage, we’ll be hosting a game show that pits 4 experts from the greater Flash community against 4 Adobe Flash evangelists. We’re calling the game “Are You Smarter than a Flash Evangelist?” and right now we’re taking your questions (and answers) to make this a quality, “infotaining” event. Got a Q/A that will flummox our contestants? Send it to us: [email protected]. Can be multiple choice, single answer, techy or not so techy. The more the better.

SO WHEN IS THE GAME?
Tues Oct 26 at 4.30pm PT – MAX Pavilion stage, LACC

WHO IS PLAYING?
The Adobe team: Lee BrimelowRyan StewartMichael Chaize and Serge Jespers
The Community team: Stacey MulcahyChuck Freedman, Elad Elrom and Jesse Freeman

WHAT’S THE ACTUAL GAME?
4 rounds of questions – the 4th round will be Family Feud style survey question which we’ll also want your input on, stay tuned for a link! – and then a final Lightning Round of Q/As.

WHAT WILL THEY WIN?
A mug. Probably a beer. Lots of bragging rights.

WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
Besides emailing us Q/A’s to [email protected]… Join us at MAX 2010. Here’s how to convince your boss. Already convinced? Here’s where to register for MAX.

Great news for developers

It’s always nice to wake up to great news!

Apple’s announcement today that it has lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines has direct implications for Adobe’s Packager for iPhone, a feature in the Flash Professional CS5 authoring tool. This feature was created to enable Flash developers to quickly and easily deliver applications for iOS devices. The feature is available for developers to use today in Flash Professional CS5, and we will now resume development work on this feature for future releases.

This is great news for developers and we’re hearing from our developer community that Packager apps are already being approved for the App Store. We do want to point out that Apple’s restriction on Flash content running in the browser on iOS devices remains in place.

Adobe will continue to work to bring full web browsing with Flash Player 10.1 as well as standalone applications on AIR to a broad range of devices, working with key industry partners including Google, HTC, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Palm/HP, RIM, Samsung and others.

MAX Unawards: Behind the scenes (part 5)

Today this five-part blog series comes to an end. Don’t forget to check out the previous four posts if you haven’t read them already.
  1. About the recording session and postproduction
  2. About personalized video and cue points
  3. Why Flex and how it was put together
  4. About the playback and recording modules

To round off this series of blog posts about the MAX Unawards application I thought it would be fun to compile some outtakes and bloopers.

Oh… And here are a couple of fun facts I didn’t tell you yet ;-)

  • Wim didn’t bring any black shoes to the studio so he’s wearing my sneakers. They were at least 3 sizes too big ;-)
  • I spend a total of… wait for it… $700 on this application. The majority of that was for the studio rental.
  • We rented the golden jacket.
  • We bought the golden shirt.
  • Wim took the golden shirt home and apparently his daughter absolutely loved it.

I had a lot of fun creating this application and I hope you have at least as much fun watching the videos and creating your own MAX Unawards video! And now… If you haven’t already created your own MAX Unaward now may be a good time to do so! All you need is an Internet connection and a webcam. Just point your browser to http://max.adobe.com/widget!
